Benarty Remembers

Benarty Great War

Benarty History and Heritage Group have an exhibition in the community centre that is full of old photos and information from the Great War and the role played by local people of the villages of Ballingry, Crosshill, Glencraig and Lochore. I was delighted to meet with the committee and really was impressed by the amount of information and photos that is available. Well worth a visit.

The group have also been gathering all the names of those from the area who lost their lives in war and are working with the Community Council to have all the names put on the war memorial which is being moved from the side of the Institute up the road to a new site. The Community Council or the Heritage Group have the names and along with Cllr Willie Clarke are keen to hear from anyone with any information on this subject.

The new War Memorial will be in place for November and well done to everyone who has been involved in the project.
