Cowdenbeath MSP Alex Rowley is urging the Fife Cultural Trust to examine options other than closure for the provision of a Library service in Crossgates. The Trust is currently undertaking a consultation on the future of libraries in Fife and is proposing to close the part-time library in Crossgates.

Speaking after carrying out street surgeries and listening to the views of local people, Mr Rowley said; “I have been contacted by local people who are asking if there is an opportunity to look again at the provision in Crossgates and put some kind of local library facility into the Crossgates Community Centre. I am therefore asking Fife Council to examine if this would be possible and if there is an opportunity to put other educational facilities into the centre such as ICT provision”.

The local MSP said the current library is situated in a very small office space which restricts the opportunity for wider educational development such as book clubs, baby books etc. He continued; “At a time when there is more houses being built there is a need to develop facilities and I am hopping that both the Trust and the council will be open to exploring other options with the local community”.

Residents are being asked to give their views on the library review by logging on to the Fife web site at www.fifedirect.org.uk/libreview
