Education Campaigner Malala Welcomed to Fife

Malala is welcomed to Fife

Today it was a great honour to welcome Malala Yousafzai to Fife where she carried out the Topping Out Ceremony at the new Burntisland  Primary School. She also unveiled a plaque for the Malala Library which will be in the new school. Over 200 local people also gave Malala a very warm welcome to Burntisland and heard her speak of her campaign for every child to have an education.

Earlier in the day Malala had received an honorary degree from the University of Edinburgh in recognition of her bravery, dedication and commitment to the right of every child to education. Malala addressed a packed McEwan Hall at the Global Citizenship Commission which was attended by over 200 school pupils for Fife schools.

Gordon Brown had invited Malala to come to Fife and it was equally a great honour to welcome him to the new replacement school which he has campaigned for over many years.
