The learning centre at the Moray Institute in Kelty is under threat from closure following an announcement from the Adam Smith College that they wish to pull out. The college say the greatest cost to them is the room hire which they pay Fife Council for.
I have met with Fife Council’s executive director for housing and communities and made the case that the council also has a responsibility for adult education and for contributing to the positive aspects of the community and as such should not be the main barrier for this centre continuing.
Gordon brown visited the centre and met with some of the people who are campaigning to keep the centre open. We will continue to make the case for the college and council working together to keep our learning centre in Kelty.

Before the last elections promises were made to students about the level of financial support and these promises are now been broken by the SNP government in Edinburgh. Colleges have having their funding slashed at a time when the demand for education, training and skills is increasing due to the levels of unemployment being created by the economic incompetence of the Tories and their Lib Dem allies in London.
You need to do more to let people see what is really going on while at the same time the bankers are in the trough paying themselves millions of pounds of our money, that is the tax payer who now owns the banks.
I think that the numbers of people that go through the schooling system and still find it difficult to have the basic skills of numeracy and literacy is somewhat amazing. These days there are young people who cant get work as they have real problems in basic communication. So while I am all for adult education, should we not do more when they are kids to give them a better start in life?
