The competitive season has got off to a good start for Kelty and Blairadam Pipe Band as they picked up first prise for Novice Juveniles at the Loch Level Pipe Band contest held this weekend in Kinross.  There was an extra bonus when the band unexpectedly picked up first prize in the street parade competing against many more experienced bands from across the country.

Kelty tutor David Millar said the players were delighted with the two first prizes and praised the young players who are only in their third year as a band. Pipe Major Andrew Keating’s said; “This is a tremendous boost for all the young players and is a credit to all their hard work and practice that we were able to win our grade and the street parade”.

Many of the young pipers have been recruited through the local schools projects set up through the Cowdenbeath area committee schools for piping programme. There was also a celebration for the young drummers in the drumming section as they took third prize in the open drum core section.
