Tesco pull out of new Cowdenbeath superstore.

I was disappointed to receive a letter from Tesco this morning advising that they will no longer proceed with their plans to build and open a new superstore at the north end of the High Street in Cowdenbeath. The text of the letter below explains their position.

I have now written to Fife council asking for a meeting to discuss what the next steps are for this site but also to discuss the lack of progress in moving forward with action to address the derelict building at this end of the High Street and what seems to be a lack of progress in bringing forward any proposals to support the development and sustainability of the high street. Over the last few months I have met with Bids Scotland and Community Development Trust Scotland and showed them round the high street as I am aware both organisations have worked in other local communities to support regeneration and sustainability in town centres. Both organisations have said they would be willing to work in Cowdenbeath and this information has been passed on to the Council.

I am now seeking a meeting with the council to discuss how we move forward and what they plan.
