The Cowdenbeath Area Committee is moving forward with its proposal to create a number of skate parks in the area. It is proposed that smaller parks are established at Kelty, Benarty, Lochgelly and Cardenden at a rough cost of £70,000 per park with a larger park being created at Cowdenbeath for around £180,000. Youth workers are working with young people across the area to look at locations and design. The idea being all the young people work together to get this up and running with the central larger one being in the most accessible area for all communities.

The meeting of the Kelty group took place last evening and they are working on being constituted so they can access funds. Once the basic new facility is established the group will be able to build on that by raising additional funds.

The Area Committee has identified £178,000 and agreed yesterday to use further finds from a local budget that will get closure to the £500,000 needed. Applications are also being submitted to a number of funding organisations and we are confident of having the funding in place early in the new year and have asked the youth workers to work with the young people getting the designs and locations agreed early in the new year so the parks can be established by the spring of next year.
